A large-scale French adaptation of the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas. The film impresses with its visuals, epicness and a strong performance by Pierre Niney as Edmond Dantes. However, despite some simplifications of the plot, the film remains true to the spirit of the original.

A great adventure and a real blockbuster. I respect the execution. Everyone here is so beautiful and important. The ending seemed a bit forced: everything developed so epically and passionately, and ended without much romance.

Dumas is turning over in his grave. As a film adaptation it is very bad, they distorted the plot, mixed up the characters, removed important episodes. In the book, although it is fantastic, it is explainable. Here he escaped and here on a ship. Alone. Where he got the ship is unclear. How he managed it alone is unclear. The viewer is an idiot, he will swallow it.

The film is not bad, but it lacks something, I think of a moment like this: you’re preparing some dish, you seem to be doing everything right, but when you try it, you realize that you should have added this seasoning and the dish would have turned out great, that’s how it is with this film.

Not a masterpiece, but quite an interesting adaptation of the work by Alexandre Dumas. Pierre Niney looks good in the role of the Count of Monte Cristo. The film is interesting to watch despite its almost 3-hour running time

I didn’t understand why Dantes needed masks, in which he still looks exactly the same. But I wanted to read Dumas, that’s true.

Excellent. Filmed, acted like a fairy tale. The story is eternal and presented without inventions. Classics are always in demand, here, damn, there are so many plots that could have been made a separate film like Dune, but everything was shown without inventions and revisions. Even though it was three hours, I didn’t fall asleep. The film is simply a magnet.

The juicy picture does not save the too schematic, abstract and lifeless retelling of one of the most interesting and emotional works. If before I always lived with Edmond, then this time it did not touch me at all.

I am one of those people who separates the wheat from the chaff, and that is because cinema and literature are completely different forms of art. I really liked the film. Beautiful, lively, dynamic. And in general… Pierre Niney (One Love) is the best Count of Monte Cristo, in my opinion, that is exactly how he should be.

Once again they filmed Dumas without Dumas. Well, okay, the film is beautiful, you can’t take that away.
