The film frequently blurs the line between fiction and reality, especially highlighting the act of observation. The character Paul breaks the fourth wall throughout the film and addresses the camera in various ways. As he directs Anna to look for her dead dog, he turns, winks, and smirks at the camera. When he asks the family to bet on their survival, he turns to the camera and asks the audience whether they will bet as well. At the end of the film, when requesting eggs from the next family, he looks into the camera and smirks again. Only Paul breaks the fourth wall in the film, while Peter makes references to the formulaic suspense rules of traditional cinema throughout the film.

A cool thriller with an interesting idea, it looks more like a statement on the topic of cinema’s interaction with the viewer, but as a film it’s very good. Impeccable production, brave acting, a couple of moments seemed a little drawn out, but otherwise it was a wonderful movie.
A very scary movie, and the atmosphere of hopelessness is skillfully and steadily escalated. The breaking of the fourth wall in the film amazed me and even somehow offended me, which does not happen very often. I won’t watch the remake from the same director just in case.

Haneke and his, to put it mildly, odious antagonists mock the viewer as best they can, which is why this picture is iconic and exemplary. Hood. techniques and op. the work is an illustrative example of how you can recreate this sticky horror and despair in the viewer’s head
A very good conceptual film that does not mince words. Rarely in films, breaking the fourth wall directly tells the viewer that the main character here is the antagonist and he doesn’t give a damn about any rules, "the hero’s path", etc.
