After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters to search for a hidden island, that could break a curse made up of a fury of storms that has fallen upon Oceania. On an adventure unlike anything she has ever faced before, she will be forced to face off against old and new challenges from creatures led by Matangi, a dreaded underworld goddess. To complete her mission of reconnecting all of the people and communities of Oceania, she must summon her old demigod friend Maui and a group of new sailors as well, to help outmatch their enemies.

What is “Moana 2” about?
It’s an adventure sequel following Moana as she sets out on a new voyage beyond familiar seas, testing her leadership and balancing duty to her people with the ocean’s call.
Is it a direct continuation of the first “Moana” or a standalone story?
“Moana 2” is a sequel: it builds on the established world and seafaring themes, while presenting a new, self-contained adventure that’s still accessible if you haven’t revisited the first film recently.
What genre and tone does “Moana 2” have?
It’s a family adventure animated film with an energetic journey, humor, and emotional coming-of-age and responsibility themes.
Does “Moana 2” introduce new characters and locations?
Yes: the sequel broadens the world with new islands, sea routes, and encounters with new allies and adversaries to make the voyage feel bigger than the first.
Does “Moana 2” have lots of songs and musical numbers?
It keeps the franchise’s musical identity: the story includes songs and score-driven set pieces that support the plot and highlight character emotions.
Is “Moana 2” suitable for kids? Are there scary scenes?
It’s a family film: there may be intense sequences (storms, ocean hazards, nature-driven threats), but overall the tone stays adventurous and suited for co-viewing.
What are the main themes in “Moana 2”?
Core themes include leadership, responsibility to one’s community, connection to the ocean and ancestral heritage, and the courage to face the unknown for a shared future.
Who worked on directing and writing for “Moana 2”?
Key creatives associated with the project include director David G. Derrick Jr. and writer Jared Bush; development/production credits also mention David Fain and Rebekah F. Smith.
Is “Moana 2” connected to Polynesian culture and mythology?
Like the first film, the sequel leans into a Polynesian-informed setting: seafaring, respect for ancestors, and oceanic mythic motifs remain central to its atmosphere and conflicts.
Do you need to watch the first film before “Moana 2”?
It helps: you’ll better appreciate the character growth and callbacks. Still, “Moana 2” is designed as a new adventure, so you can follow the main story without a rewatch.
Does “Moana 2” include humor and comedic moments?
Yes—humor remains a key ingredient, easing tension during the voyage and keeping the overall tone family-friendly even in perilous moments.
What can viewers expect from the visual style and animation in “Moana 2”?
Expect large-scale ocean set pieces, nuanced light-on-water visuals, vivid island landscapes, and kinetic travel sequences—aiming to make the ocean feel like an even more “alive” character.
Does “Moana 2” emphasize family and community?
Yes: it reinforces that personal bravery matters, but a leader’s choices are always tied to the well-being of loved ones and the wider community.
Why might fans of the first film enjoy “Moana 2”?
It offers more ocean adventure, a broader world, further growth of Moana as a leader, and the familiar mix of epic stakes, humor, and heartfelt moments.

The wife was the first to give in. Then, tired of the abundance of useless songs, the eldest son left. When the credits rolled, I realized the youngest had long since fallen asleep. My family had fooled me again! A fantastically boring cartoon-characters floating somewhere, something booming, why, where, who cares-the creators obviously wanted to give the viewer visual beauty. Maybe they did, but I was already tired of so much water in the Avatar sequel. 5.5

A Disney sequel that tried to enter the same ocean twice quite successfully. It is Disney, with all its advantages (quality animation, bright characters and secondary animals like "bacon" and "fried eggs") and disadvantages (infantile plot and songs). It turned out to be something like "Avatar 2". Even more water, even more characters, even more danger, even higher stakes, even more significant reward in case of success. A pleasant cartoon. I gave the original 8.5 out of 10. There will be no reference to Fellini here.
Moana 2
A real movie would explore its protagonist more, but Moana 2 isn’t a real movie.

With artistry this good, it begs the question for why a live-action remake is needed at all.

Nothing new compared to the first part, but I watched the cartoon with pleasure. It’s even a pity that I didn’t see it in the cinema. The picture here is very beautiful, especially the night shots. I just don’t understand what’s the point of Moana’s menagerie?

The picture is bright and summery. Having watched this in childhood, you can probably love the cartoon with all your heart, but I have the first part there.
The plot practically repeats the first part, only supposedly bigger (but no).
Perhaps the only song by Skala that will be remembered as good and motivational. It’s probably great to turn it on while working out in the gym.
But by and large, for me it’s like the second part of Frozen. I remember the first part very well, but I can’t remember what the second part was about.
But they raised money and there will be a third part one day, and a film.

Cool cartoon, I enjoyed going to the cinema. At the level of the first part, and somewhere even better.

A funny and sometimes cute cartoon about a sea voyage. It didn’t reach a high level: there was nothing impressive, and the plot didn’t surprise. However, it was pleasant to watch.

And yet, despite all the reasonable complaints about the Mouse House, its new cartoons remain an event. If we do not take into account the outright failures, a certain level of quality is present even in the most average and purely commercial projects. The script here was probably written by a neural network, but the visuals and dialogues are clearly the work of people, and, I am sure, talented ones. Well, what seems weak to an adult may be more than ok for a child – this is also important to remember when evaluating children’s projects.
Watched
The film is on par with the first part, except that I think there’s more humor and so on. In the cartoon, a frame doesn’t linger for more than three seconds. But it’s still watchable.
Watched
Not bad, quite on par with the first part, but there wasn’t enough rooster!
Watched
A sequel that could easily have never been released – it doesn’t add anything new to the story or the characters.

Junk food for kids. It’s quite suitable if you are not picky about cartoons or if you don’t really love your child)

The sunny vibe of Oceania will warm up a story of any degree of freshness. It is better to relax like Hei-hei while watching the sequel and enjoy the colorful picture accompanied by Maori songs, rather than look for logic in all this and realize by what absurd magic Disney "slapped together" the plot…
Watched
The graphics are beautiful. The plot is incredibly weak. The songs have no impact whatsoever. The scenes are drawn out; it could have all been squeezed into 30 minutes.
Watched
It was nice. My sister couldn’t stop yelling, because Maui is a demi God. The story was good and evry else was nice
Watched
A sequel that will please fans of the first part with great animation and familiar characters. However, if you are expecting the same strong emotional response and originality as in the first part, the sequel may not fully live up to expectations.
Watched
A beautiful musical film, but the first part is much cooler and funnier, but overall it’s a good cartoon, I definitely recommend it for family viewing.
Watched
Like the first cartoon – kind and bright. At the same time – about nothing, the opening act alone is worth half the running time. It feels like this is a random sequel, or it was rolled out to refresh the merch. Overall, it’s closer to Disney+ than to a studio project.
Watched
A poorly put together and unnecessary commercial product that suffers from a repetitive script, unnecessary secondary characters, and a downright shoddy musical score.
Watched
The heroes move leisurely between several quests, as if playing a station team game. And all the problems are solved too easily, because there isn’t even an antagonist in the cartoon.
Watched
The entire cartoon was just songs and dances, only at the end did any plot emerge. The whole cartoon could have been condensed into half an hour.
Watched
Visually, it’s just as beautiful as the first part, but the main characters don’t develop, the songs aren’t memorable, and there’s no cohesion whatsoever. Still, kids over 6 will love it just because of the visuals. I’m going to listen to You’re Welcome again!
Watched
I watched the sequel to Moana’s adventures with my grandchildren. The film is full of vibrant emotions and beautiful songs. Moana sets off on another journey, and her faithful friend Maui helps her. The grandchildren are delighted, and I’m glad they still make films like this.
