According to screenwriter Robert Towne several action sequences were already planned for the film prior to his involvement and before the story had been written. Ian McKellen was offered the part of Mission Commander Swanbeck but turned it down.

The fate of the second film in the franchise turned out to be unenviable, because something went wrong. John Woo made an atypical film for himself. The plot tells how the Mission Impossible squad saves the world from biological terrorism. Virus and antidote. A little action, but it works. I recommend
Standard plot for an action movie. There are so many slow-motion scenes with incredible acrobatics that sometimes it seems like Tom Cruise wanted to star in The Matrix, not a spy action movie.

A scientist invents a drug to fight diseases, but as usual, it is a biological weapon of mass destruction. All hope lies with Ethan Hunt.
The final hand-to-hand fight was really cool. The movie was a bit boring for me in places. I felt like the narrative was too long.
John Woo action movies may be liked or not, but at least they have style. This benefited the Mission. Cruise revels in himself, Prince Charming rests.
This movie could have been 40 minutes shorter if you cut out all of Cruise’s self-admiration. The masks in the first part were more real than these, you believe them more. The plot here is spread thinly and is not so interesting. And this love story is also far-fetched.
I hope all the stunts and fights were performed by Tom Cruise himself, because they are too clumsy and ridiculous, I’m already silent about the pocket "printer" for printing out masks and voices. The sequel is weaker than the first part.
