    Сast and Crew

Book the film is based on

The story is based on the novel Reminders of Him by American author Colleen Hoover.

    Author

Colleen Hoover is known for contemporary romance/drama novels that center on grief, guilt, public judgment, and rebuilding a life after a devastating turning point.

What the book is about (no spoilers)

Reminders of Him follows a woman trying to earn back trust and rebuild her relationship with her child after a life-altering tragedy and the consequences of past decisions. Major themes include motherhood, accountability and redemption, guardianship and boundaries, community condemnation, and love as a source of recovery.

How closely the film corresponds to the book

      • Core match: the book’s emotional backbone—guilt, redemption, and the struggle to be close to one’s child—maps well to the premise presented for the screen story.

      • Likely differences: the film synopsis emphasizes a “mother + sixteen-year-old daughter” dual focus and two parallel romance tracks (including a teen love interest). In the novel, the adult protagonist’s redemption arc and the aftermath of the tragedy are more structurally central, with romance functioning more as support than as a co-equal axis.

      • Bottom line: thematically aligned, but the adaptation likely shifts perspective and reallocates story weight, meaning noticeable structural changes even if the emotional intent remains similar.

I urgently needed to change the taste of Die, My Love, and the subject matter was perfect. This is a movie about and for normal people, not crummy arthouse fare. Reasonable production, visually pleasing, two hours of real life. It’s kind of feminine, but doesn’t slide into mediocrity.

It’s as if the film was made by different people. Sometimes it’s cringe, sometimes it’s a decent comedy.
