"Wish You Were There" is a story about estranged family members and their struggles who find themselves coming to grips with decisions made in the past that haunt them today and learning how to cope and grow and struggle with the desire to connect even as that terrifies them. Emily (played by Ali Dusinberre) is the granddaughter of Richard Vargas (played by Joe White), a grandfather she has never interacted with in her 24 years. Then a family tragedy reconnects them and sparks ignite as they interact and struggle with the present, while dealing with the past. Richard, a functioning alcoholic, spends his days drinking and taking care of his 15-year-old best friend, his black lab Robbie, when his life is interrupted by Emily who is struggling with a recent loss and dealing with her own battle with the bottle.
