    Description

This "paranormal science" story follows nine idiosyncratic individuals, linked by the "Choujou Kagaku Kirikiri Basara" occult summary blog run by 17-year-old second-year high school student Yuuta Gamon. Little incongruities that occur around these nine eventually lead to a larger, unimaginable event that may alter what is considered common sense in this world.

    The book behind “Occultic;Nine”

    Source material

Title: Occultic;Nine (オカルティック・ナイン) Author: Chiyomaru Shikura Format: light novel series (ranobe) Publisher: Kadokawa (Japan; released in multiple volumes)

    What the book is about

Occultic;Nine is an occult mystery/thriller set around Musashino, following an ensemble cast who become linked by a string of strange “paranormal” incidents. What begins as curiosity about urban legends and attempts to debunk the supernatural escalates into events that challenge the characters’ assumptions about reality, evidence, and causality.

      • Style: dense, fast-paced dialogue; lots of terminology, rumors, and internet-era noise around the occult.

      • Structure: multi-protagonist (the “nine”), with separate threads that gradually interlock.

      • Themes: skepticism vs belief, how information shapes perception, and the cost of pursuing hidden truths.

    About the author

Chiyomaru Shikura is a Japanese writer/producer known for story-driven multimedia projects. Occultic;Nine is one of his novel projects built around contemporary urban occultism and conspiracy-tinged mysteries.

How closely the adaptation follows the book

      • Core plot: largely retains the novel’s main setup, key character lines, and major turning points.

      • Compression: compared with the novels, explanatory bridges, investigative logic, and some connective details are typically condensed or rearranged for pacing.

      • Character depth: the book provides more room for motivations and background; some nuances are reduced on screen.

      • Overall: recognizably faithful in the big picture, but leaner in detail and justification than the light novels.
