Fresh out of juvenile detention, Zhenya discovers she has nowhere to go: the apartment she shared with her mother has been sold, her mother is in a psychiatric hospital, and her half-sister Irina won’t even let her in. Irina’s husband, Sasha, is moved by the girl’s plight and, despite Irina’s protests, offers to let Zhenya stay with them. Zhenya is determined to find out who was responsible for her best friend’s death—the very case that landed her behind bars. Irina thinks the idea is crazy, and the police closed the case long ago.
