Hoodwinked! was one of the first independent computer-animated films to be produced without the aid of a distributor. Although the film's budget is listed as $30 million on Box Office Mojo, several sources have rejected this figure, reporting that the film was produced for no more than $15 million. Director Cory Edwards explained in a 2009 interview that the film's actual budget was under $8 million. Any of these figures would be significantly lower than is typical for a computer-animated film's budget. At the time of Hoodwinked!s production, the costs of computer-animation software had only recently decreased to a price that was accessible to more than just major studios, and leading up to the film's release, producer David Lovegren said, "Six or seven years ago, the idea of doing Hoodwinked! as an independent [animated] feature would have been impossible".

The film is not based on a separate modern book, but on the fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood”, best known in the literary version by Charles Perrault and in the Brothers Grimm version.
Author
Charles Perrault published “Little Red Riding Hood” in Histoires ou contes du temps passé, commonly known in English as Mother Goose Tales, in 1697. It is a literary adaptation of a folk tale.
The Brothers Grimm later included their own version of the tale in Children’s and Household Tales.
How closely the film follows the book
The plot uses recognizable characters and the basic setup of the tale: Little Red Riding Hood, the Wolf, the Grandmother, and the forest journey to the Grandmother’s house. However, it is not a direct adaptation of the text by Charles Perrault or the Brothers Grimm, but a loose reworking of the fairy-tale plot as a comedic detective retelling.

I watched it as a child and have minimal memories. The cartoon can be praised for its interesting presentation of the plot, but everything else, apparently, is already outdated.
Cool cartoon, of course the impressions are not the same as in childhood, but I like it. The animation is terrible, but for some reason it attracts me and does not repulse me. There are some funny moments. Great plot + everyone tells the story in their own way, everyone has their own view of events – it’s chic
