The Book Behind the Film "Reservation Road"

    About the Book

Reservation Road is a novel written by Jonathan Burnham Schwartz. The book was published in 1998 and is a gripping tale that delves into themes of grief, loss, and the quest for justice. It explores the lives of two families whose destinies become tragically intertwined following a hit-and-run accident.

    Author

Jonathan Burnham Schwartz is an American author known for his ability to weave complex emotional narratives. His writing often focuses on the intricacies of human relationships and the moral dilemmas faced by his characters. Schwartz's work has been praised for its depth and sensitivity.

    Book vs. Film

The film adaptation of Reservation Road attempts to stay true to the core themes and emotional depth of Schwartz's novel. However, as with many adaptations, certain elements and nuances of the book are altered or condensed to fit the cinematic format. The film captures the essence of the story, but some readers may find that the book offers a more detailed exploration of the characters' inner lives and motivations.

    Production

The film was shot in Stamford, Connecticut, starting in late October, 2006, with the very first city scene from MD, and the next scene at Cove Island Park. Parts of the movie were also filmed at Lake Compounce Amusement Park in Bristol, Connecticut, and the Olde Blue Bird Inn & Gas Station and adjacent Baseball Field in Easton, CT. Shots of Martha's Vineyard are used in the trailer and movie.
