A remake of the original Karate Kid entered the development in the late 2008. Variety reported at the time that the new film, to be produced by Will Smith, "has been refashioned as a star vehicle for Jaden Smith" and that it would "borrow elements from the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor". Jackie Chan told a Los Angeles Chinatown concert crowd in 2009 that he was leaving for Beijing to film the remake as Jaden Smith's teacher.

This new Karate Kid is, in the end, a winning update of a classic piece of Eighties' filmmaking, and that in itself is something of a coup.
The story’s good intentions survive, largely because of Chan’s way of tenderising his approach to martial arts with humour and humility.
The problem with the film is that that story, hackneyed when it first made it to the screen in 1984, has grown only more tired over the past 2...
It’s as sweet-natured a movie as you could expect about a 12-year-old learning to beat the crap out of his schoolmates.
This year’s Kid lacks the light-hearted buoyancy of the original; it’s heavier with loss and a particularly vicious cruelty.
The film becomes less interesting as the predictable climax approaches, and the acting isn’t strong enough to redeem the tired material.

The film is excellent, it is motivating, teaches you to respect the dignity of others and yours, is cruel in places, but Jackie Chan steals every appearance he makes, there are family values and martial arts. The problem of adaptation to a new place of residence is also touched upon. I recommend you to get acquainted. Like!

I can’t bring myself to give Russian national actor Jackie Chan less than a 7.

A fairly standard film about overcoming, which is saved by a charming teacher played by Jackie Chan and a general overly positive attitude.

I’ve wanted to watch this movie for a long time, and finally watched it on a big TV. The movie has an interesting plot, it’s interesting to watch the character’s development, he doesn’t become a master overnight, but goes a long way to knowledge and skills. Jackie Chan fits perfectly into the image of the teacher.
