After Disney's acquisition of Marvel Entertainment in 2009, CEO Bob Iger encouraged the company's divisions to explore Marvel's properties for adaptation concepts. By deliberately picking an obscure title, it would give them the freedom to come up with their own version. While directing Winnie the Pooh, director Don Hall was scrolling through a Marvel database when he stumbled upon Big Hero 6, a comic he had never heard of before. "I just liked the title," he said. He pitched the concept to John Lasseter in 2011, as one of five ideas for possible productions for Walt Disney Animation Studios, and this particular idea "struck a chord" with Lasseter, Hall, and Chris Williams (Director of Bolt).

The cartoon seems to have touching moments, but the extremely bland plot and banality typical of a Marvel superhero kill it. And the closer the finale is, the more you don’t care about the characters, because everything will be fine with them. Somehow the cartoon was also given an Oscar… Translated to English

I watch this cartoon again and again and enjoy it. There is one of the cutest robots in history, and heroism, and loss, and friendship, and humor, and dynamics. Translated to English

I can’t say that the cartoon interested me very much. The plot here is too banal and the characters are faceless (the minor ones are basically walking cardboard boxes). Still, overall it’s a good cartoon. I’ll give it a point for the interesting setting and the cutest robot. Translated to English

That time when you start watching a cartoon and realize that you have already watched it! It’s bad, because a good picture should remain in the memory for a long time, especially in mine. A highly overrated, absolutely passable, unremarkable cartoon about a boy and a robot. Translated to English

For some reason I only watched it about the sixth time. And the cartoon turned out to be very good. About the fight against a common enemy, about friendship and revenge. Translated to English

An excellent cartoon that not only entertains with funny superheroes and a very, very cute robot (I love it), but also, as the story goes on, shows uncontrived conflicts, character development, and raises some serious topics. Not at Pixar level, but quite worthy 8.5/10 Translated to English
