    About the Book

The film "Misterium. Beginning" is based on the book Mercy (original title: Kvinden i buret) by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen. This book is the first installment in the Department Q series, which follows the investigations of cold cases by Detective Carl Mørck and his assistant Assad.

    About the Author

Jussi Adler-Olsen is a renowned Danish author known for his gripping crime novels. He has received numerous awards for his work, and the Department Q series has been particularly successful, gaining a large international readership.

    Book to Film Adaptation

The film adaptation of Mercy stays relatively true to the source material, capturing the essence of the book's suspense and complex characters. However, as with many adaptations, certain elements and details have been altered or condensed to fit the cinematic format. The film successfully conveys the dark and intense atmosphere of the novel, while focusing on the main plot and character dynamics.

    Release

The film was first shown at the Gothenburg Film Festival in January 2013, followed by several more film festivals before its cinema release in Denmark on 3 October 2013. The film topped the local box office in 2013 with 725,000 Danish moviegoers buying tickets.

A Danish detective film a bit in the spirit of "Oldboy" with a couple of colorful policemen

A passable detective thriller made in the best traditions of the genre. Gloomy, tense, with an unusual mystery and good detective stories. There are also plenty of clichés, but they are smoothed out during viewing thanks to the intricate plot and Scandinavian atmosphere.

Two detectives are looking for an aunt who has been imprisoned for five years. In general, the movie is not bad, but it is not without clichés. The main character, as often happens in such films, is gloomy, unsociable and has problems with booze. P.S. Magnacello is sexy, although he is as scary as my death.

A strange plot, to be honest. Smacks of some kind of absolutely fantastic superhero game with a classic supervillain. And the way the tangle was unraveled was not particularly impressive. You expect something completely different from a detective.

I expected the worst from the film, so I perceived the film positively. A typical action movie only in the Scandinavian style. Of course, the film cannot be compared with the Swedish-Danish series The Bridge, but if you like detective stories with action, the film is worth watching.

Scandinavian detective stories are like Japanese horror films – at first they’re cool, then they’re just fake. So here too – everything is so secondary and ultimately even stupid that it’s hard to watch without asking questions to the scriptwriters and smiling at the illogic that is happening. I knew better stories.

If you liked "The Bridge" and "The Killing." Scandinavians are making more and more good detectives
