    Production

The development of Total Recall began in 1974, when producer Ronald Shusett purchased the adaptation rights to science-fiction writer Philip K. Dick's 1966 short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" for $1,000. Shusett had read the 23-page story by the then-little-known pulp fiction writer in an April 1966 edition of The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. It depicts a meek clerk on Earth named Quail who visits Rekal Incorporated to receive a memory implant of being a secret agent on Mars. However, the process uncovers his true identity as a Martian secret agent whose death will bring about an alien invasion.

Beautifully preserved by practical effects, the film has ultra-violence, stylish and creepy design, and a strong script that can lead you by the nose until the end of the film without ever answering the main question. A definite masterpiece of 90s sci-fi cinema Translated to English

I love this movie and the past Schwartz is Schwartz and a cool production in general from Paul Verhoeven the film is 33 years old, real adventures on Mars Translated to English

What a sweetie it was under our noses for many years. One of the most interesting representatives of cyberpunk. Here, reflections on memory and the nature of personality feel great next to the insanely comical Arnie and a prostitute with three tits. Translated to English

Rewatching the film a few years later allowed the rating to be raised. Still, 8 points for such a gorgeous film is unacceptable stinginess on the part of the younger version of me. How hot is Sharon Stone here! Yes, for one you can give 10! But that will have to wait until the next viewing) Translated to English

Today, thanks to Inoekino, I realized what else I like, namely fantastic action films about double/triple/fourth agents falling into a dream within a dream within a dream and all this, of course, in the bloody tones of the endless Mars Translated to English

I rewatched it 15-20 years later (I can’t say for sure). Great movie. Verhoeven’s best. The plot is not without naivety and attractions, but how exciting it is. And the ending is beautiful. I’m raising my rating from 7.5 to 9. Translated to English

    P. Verhoeven’s film is atmospheric, plot-wise, interesting, dynamic and visually beautiful. At the same time, he does not try to be serious and represents an endangered species in the measure of smart and rollickingly entertaining cinema. One of the best films in Iron Arnie’s career. Translated to English

Verhoeven knows how to make smart, dynamic and entertaining films. He is not afraid to poke fun at the action genre, but at the same time makes a film according to all its laws. Great picture. Translated to English

It’s nice to remember "Total Recall" – one of the last science fiction action films made with virtually no greenery. Moreover, it’s so cruel in the European style and doesn’t care about age ratings. Based on these delights, I even wanted to raise my rating. Still a unique thing. Translated to English

I watched this movie for the first time. Honestly, I liked the 2012 remake better. Yes, it is more sterile, but special effects make the difference. Here they are extremely outdated. But I still enjoyed watching the film. Despite the bloodiness, it is somehow lamp-like and funny. Translated to English

A pleasant nostalgic action movie, with location shooting, a minimum of green paint and a maximum of makeup. At first, the plot develops rapidly and intrigues, but in the end it all comes down to flared post-shootings without reloading. Translated to English
